You may see your dog running around in a circle scratching at its ear and think it's cute, but it may be infected with ear mites. Ear mites belong to the Arachnida class, which also classifies ticks, mold mites and dust mites. They reproduce rather quickly and get transmitted from pet to pet even quicker. If you think your pet may be infected with ear mites, try some home remedies. If after a month your home remedies aren't working, it's time to see the vet.

Vegetable or Olive Oil
-
To get started, use a few drops of vegetable or olive oil. Simply drop a few drops of oil into your dog's ear. Make sure to keep its head still so it doesn't shake out the oil. Massage the oil thoroughly. Use cotton balls to clean out the area after massaged. Do this for three days. The oil soothes skin, smothers the ear mites and speeds the healing process.
Yellow Dock Root Extract
-
Mix nine drops of Yellow Dock Root Extract and one tablespoon of water. Put the mixture into an eye dropper and drop all of the mixture into your dog's ear. Massage it thoroughly into the ear before the dog shakes the mixture out. Continue this procedure once every three days for a a period of four weeks.
Almond Oil and Vitamin E
-
Mix a half ounce of almond oil with 400 IU of vitamin E. Warm the mixture to room temperature. Use half of an eye dropper for each ear and massage the substance thoroughly. Clean out any excess substance with cotton balls. Administer the treatment for six days, take a three-day break, and administer for another six days.
White Vinegar
-
If your pet doesn't have severe irritation or open sores due to infection, then vinegar can be used to clean the ears. Mix one part white vinegar with two parts water. Gently pour the substance into your pet's ear and massage it thoroughly. Dry off the ears with cotton balls.
