Chocolate contains theobromine, which can be toxic to dogs. Different types of chocolate have a different amount of theobromine. If a dog weighs 20 pounds then it will take 250 pounds of white chocolate to poison it. The same dog will get poisoning from milk chocolate if it eats just two to three candy bars. It will only take one-third of a pound of cocoa to poison the same dog and it takes just two ounces of baking chocolate to poison a 20-pound dog.

Induce Vomiting
-
If your dog digests chocolate then inducing his vomit can get the poison back out of his body. To induce vomiting, buy some 3 percent standard hydrogen peroxide. Mix a solution that is equal parts water and equal parts hydrogen peroxide. Give the dog 1 tablespoon of the solution for every 10 pounds the dog weighs. Use a turkey baster to administer the solution into the dog's mouth and make sure he swallows. If the dog has not vomited in 15 minutes then try it a second time. Do not give the dog a third dosage even if he has not vomited yet.
IV Fluids
-
It might be better to take the dog to the vet and let him administer the hydrogen peroxide soultion. Vomiting can cause a dog to become dehydrated but a vet will hook the dog up to IV fluids to keep it hydrated.
Activated Charcoal
-
Activated charcoal might be the most effective agent for fighting poison. Activated charcoal is mixed with water and then the dog can drink it. Once activated charcoal is in the body it can absorb any poison that the dog may have swallowed.
