Supplements for Dogs with Bladder Cancer

Bladder cancer in dogs has a poor prognosis because it is often not diagnosed until after the disease has progressed. There are some natural treatments, including supplements, that may help your dog's condition and make him more comfortable.

  1. Red Clover

    • Red clover is an herb that is often prescribed for pets suffering from any type of cancer. It is said to have properties that keep tumors from growing.

    Dandelion

    • The herb dandelion is often prescribed for bladder cancer. It is a diuretic and helps remove waste through the kidneys and urinary tract.

    Other herbs

    • Other herbs that are sometimes used to treat bladder cancer in dogs include bladderack, buchu, comfrey, golden seal, parsley, milk thistle, mistletoe and rosehips.

    Mushrooms

    • Certain medicinal mushrooms--reishi, shiitake and cordyceps--are believed to have cancer-fighting properties.

    Fish Oils

    • Fish oils are said to support the immune system and have cancer-fighting properties.

    Immune System

    • In addition to herbs specifically for the bladder cancer, you may want to consider supplements to boost your dog's immune system. These might include astragalus, echinacea, garlic and green tea.
