How to Cure Halitosis in Dogs

Taking, halitosis in dogs, is a serious matter. It may be a sign of your dogs teeth or gum problems. Periodontal disease is a common oral problem for dogs and cats.

      Regular dental check ups at the veterinarians can monitor the condition of the gums and teeth in your dogs mouth. These cleanings can rid the problem of halitosis.

      Consider asking for a sealant to be applied after the cleanings are done to protect the enamel of the teeth and stop halitosis from returning. There is a product called oravet that is used effectively by my vet given to pet owners to apply at home. This is applied once a week in between cleanings.

      If left untreated, plaque on the teeth lead to gingivitis and deterioration of the gum tissue surrounding the teeth called periodontal disease. These can cause halitosis in your pet.

      If your dog will allow it, brush the teeth and gums at least every day with a very soft bristle brush. Brush the tongue to rid the dogs mouth of over 80% of the bacteria than can cause halitosis. Treats can help the formation of calculus and thus get rid of halitosis.
