Many companies, like Frontline and BioSpot, make a flea treatment spray. Sprays are recommended for severe infestation. Sprays typically take about 24 hours to cure the infestation.
Shampoo

Flea shampoos are common over-the-counter flea treatments. Simply wash the dog with the flea shampoo to kill and remove the fleas.
Comb

For less advanced infestations, try a flea comb. The comb allows you to groom your dog while killing fleas at the same time.
Powder

To destroy fleas that have made their way to your carpet or couch, purchase an over-the-counter flea powder. You can apply these powders to fabric and carpets, then wash thoroughly with soap and water. These powders kill fleas and prevent future re-infestation for a certain time period.
