Tylan powder is the commercial name for the antibiotic, Tylosin. It is a natural antibiotic used to treat several types of infection or chronic ailments in pets. Like all drugs, there is a possibility of side effects.

Distaste

The number one concern for Tylan powder is its distinct flavor. It is difficult to mask and may result in an animal's aversion to the antibiotic. Administrators of the drug should ensure that the pill was taken, and not discarded.
Allergies

Like all naturally-occurring antibiotics, there is the possibility of allergic reactions. If there is a possibility of an allergic reaction, a pet should not take Tylan powder. Pets showing previous allergies to erythromycin, clarithromycin, azithromycin, spiramycin and dirithromycin should not take the drug.
Gastrointestinal

Though often used to treat gastrointestinal distress, Tylan may also cause it. Any showing of diarrhea or other upset should be mentioned to a vet. Be sure to properly hydrate your animal during this time.
Injections

Tylosin is often administered in an injection. There may be sensitivity at the injection site after intramuscular administration. The skin around the area may also itch.
Drug Interactions

Like all other medications, Tylan powder may have harmful interactions with other drugs. Inform your vet of any other prescription your animal may be taking. Be especially mindful if your animal is receiving digitalis, Chloramphenicol or Lincosamides.
