Natural Herbs for Dogs

Homeopathic veterinarians use herbs to treat common problems. Many of the natural herbs and plant-based remedies that they suggest are commonly used for treating human conditions as well.

  1. Aloe

    • Just as in humans, aloe is helpful in the healing of dog's small abrasions or cuts. It can also be used to soothe irritated skin.

    Ginger

    • If you have dogs that get carsick, try giving them a capsule of powdered ginger 30 minutes before car trips. This can settle their stomachs and prevent accidents.

    Dandelion

    • Dandelions that haven't been treated with pesticides or fertilizers are a good solution for constipation. Dandelions can also help remove toxins from the dog's system.

    Parsley

    • Pet owners who have dogs that suffer from chronic halitosis can try a supplement of parsley to help with their pets' bad breath.

    Milk Thistle

    • Commonly used to treat liver disease in humans, milk thistle can be just as effective in cleansing toxins from dogs' livers. However, overuse can cause toxicity. Milk thistle should never be given to pregnant or nursing dogs.

    Garlic

    • Garlic s used to boost immune-system health, and it also aids in liver function. Garlic should be used sparingly with your dog, though because too much can lead to anemia.
