Dog Health: a Cure for Diarrhea

There are many reasons why your pooch might get diarrhea. It could have eaten something that's upset its stomach, or the diarrhea could be a symptom of an underlying illness. While you should check with your vet if the diarrhea continues, there is a simple step you can take to cure diarrhea at home.

  1. Boiled rice

    • To avoid irritating your dog's digestive system, feed it boiled white rice for meals. Substitute the normal amount of dog food with an equal amount of plain rice.

    Pumpkin

    • Canned pumpkin is a great way to cure your dog's diarrhea at home, as the pumpkin firms up the dog's stool.

    Recipe

    • Add 1 tbsp. of canned pumpkin to your dog's regular dog food (or the rice) if it's a 50-lb. dog, and 1 tsp. if it's a small dog such as a chihuahua.

    Time Frame

    • Continue the pumpkin regimen daily until you notice a firmer stool.

    Concerns

    • Contact your vet if your dog still has digestive problems after a week of eating canned pumpkin.
