Flea season doesn't end with the coming of autumn. In fact, some of the warmer areas of the United States experience flea season all year long. Keeping your dog flea-free is important in preventing several flea-borne illnesses that can affect both animals and humans. Some of the chemicals in commercial flea treatments can be even more dangerous than the fleas themselves. But you can create your own natural flea remedy using a garlic powder recipe, which renders your dog's blood unsavory to biting fleas.
Things You'll Need
- Oven preheated to 350 degrees
- 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese
- 1 cup of whole wheat flour
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
- 1/2 cup of whole milk
- Medium-sized mixing bowl
- Mixing spoon
- Blender
- Flour
- Parchment paper
- Cookie cutters
- Cookie sheet
- Crisco
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and set a tablespoon of butter aside to soften. If you do not have enough preparation time, place the butter in the microwave for 20 to 30 seconds until it is slightly melted.
Add garlic powder, wheat flour and cheese to a medium-sized bowl. Mix with a spoon. Add the softened butter to the mixture and combine.
Blend the milk into the mixture with an electric mixer on its lowest setting. Keep blending until you've combined the ingredients into a soft dough.
Sprinkle flour on a piece of parchment paper. Roll the dough to a thickness of one-quarter inch. Use a cookie cutter to cut the dough into shapes and place them on a cookie sheet greased with Crisco.
Bake the garlic treats in the oven for approximately 15 minutes, remove and let them to cool. Place the garlic treats in an airtight bag or plastic container and store them in the refrigerator. Discard uneaten treats after two weeks.
