How to Kill Fleas Outdoors

The Midwest is an area of the country that provides a natural haven for fleas and ticks. These creatures can carry disease, and animals -- including humans -- have much to fear from them. Keeping not only your home but your yard free from them is important: there are prevention medications for animals, but not for humans.

Things You'll Need

  • Lawn mower Weed eater Water sprayer or pump with nozzle Liquid insecticide (Suggested brand is Bifen IT)

Instructions

    • 1

Mow your entire yard and all nearby areas. Keeping the grass trimmed will help prevent flea infestations.

    • 2

Use weed-eater on the yard, sidewalks, stairs and driveway.

    • 3

Mix ½-ounce of insecticide with 1 gallon of water and pour into the sprayer. Use about 3 gallons of water for every 1,200 square feet of ground you are treating. Start at the porch or stairs of your home and work outward to the end of your property. Spray in a sweeping motion over 5-foot areas. Spray any wooden fences, tree trunks and walkways.

    • 4

Remove your animals from any outside cages or kennels and spray those dwellings. Allow them to dry before placing your animals back in.
