Dog lovers want to take their dogs along when they enjoy the warmer summer weather. But warmer days mean HOT pavement, and the blacktop on driveways, streets and parking lots can get downright dangerous. A dog's pads were made to protect their feet, but they can't protect feet from scorching temperatures. Dogs' pads can and do burn. They can also get cut up from broken glass and other debris while you're out on walks. There are several great ways to keep your dog's feet protected from the scorching summer temperatures and cold icy temperatures as well.

Dog shoes are the best way to protect your dog'ss feet from the dangers of hot pavement, broken glass and other sharp objects as well as chemicals from pavement.
Not all dogs can get used to wearing shoes, though, and they can be difficult to put on and keep secured. For a better fit, whatever dog shoe brand you choose, you should consider one with a hard rubber sole like a tennis shoe. These offer superior protection from hot pavement, slippery floors and glass, rocks and other dangerous debris. A tall upper with Velcro straps that wrap around the dog's leg also help them stay on the paw better.
Paw wax is designed to be wiped onto the dog's pads. It can provide protection from summer's scorching heat and from chemicals like road salts. It has the added benefit of helping your dog's keep their feet under them on slippery surfaces like freshly waxed floors.
Disposable dog boots are another option. These are typically neoprene boots that are easy to put on and take off. They are meant for short-term use, but do a good job of protecting a dog's feet
Peel and stick felt pads can help protect your dog's pads from hot pavement as well as provide a nonskid surface to help your dog navigate slippery floors.
