How to Use Dramamine for Motion Sickness in Dogs

Dogs get motion sickness just as humans do. Contrary to what people think, it is fine to give Dramamine to dogs for their illness. The key is making sure that the dog ingests the Dramamine, and this requires some tricky thinking.

Things You'll Need

  • Dramamine
  • Dog treat, bread, hot dog or cheese (a treat your dog will eat easily)

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a treat that your dog likes a lot and will ingest easily. For some dogs, this is a regular soft dog treat; for others, it is a piece of hot dog or cheese. You will want to provide your dog with the Dramamine at least an hour before you feel the dog will get motion sickness.

    • 2

Take one or two of the Dramamine (it will depend on the size of dog, but usually just one Dramamine is needed), and insert it into the treat, deep inside, so that it will not fall out.

    • 3

Have the dog eat the treat from your hand to make sure that he ingests the Dramamine. Sometimes dogs will spit out the Dramamine or let pieces of it drop to the floor. If the dog does not ingest all of it, repeat the procedure with a different treat.

    • 4

Give the dog the Dramamine before traveling to ensure he does not get motion sickness. If you have given your dog some and he still shows signs of motion sickness, then provide him with half of one more in another treat. Do not exceed the recommended dosage for humans.
