How can you tell if your dog got impregnated?

1. Behavioral Changes:

- Increased affection and clinging to the owner

- Nesting behavior (gathering soft objects/blankets)

- Frequent licking of the vulva

- Increased urination and drinking

2. Physical Changes:

- Swollen and firm nipples (usually 3-4 weeks post-breeding)

- Enlarged abdomen (visible between 4-8 weeks)

- Weight gain (due to developing fetuses)

- Reduced activity and energy levels

- Morning sickness (rare, occurring 2-3 weeks post-breeding)

3. Veterinary Confirmation:

- A blood pregnancy test can detect pregnancy as early as 3 weeks post-breeding.

- Abdominal palpation by a veterinarian can confirm pregnancy from about 4 weeks onwards.

- Ultrasound examination provides a more accurate estimate of the number of puppies and their developmental stage.

4. Milk Production:

- Milk production usually starts a few days before or during labor.

- If you notice milk discharge, it's a strong sign of impending delivery.

5. Change in Appetite:

- Some dogs may experience a temporary decrease in appetite during the early stages of pregnancy.

- In later stages, they may have an increased appetite due to the nutritional demands of the growing puppies.

Note: If you suspect that your dog may be pregnant, it's important to consult with a veterinarian for proper care and monitoring throughout the pregnancy.
