What lab tests are done to monitor digoxin toxicity?

The following lab tests can be used to monitor digoxin toxicity:

- Electrocardiogram (ECG) shows signs such as prolongation of the PR interval, increased QRS duration, and development of ventricular arrhythmias.

- Serum digoxin level: A blood test to measure the amount of digoxin in the blood. Toxic levels are generally considered to be above 2 ng/mL.

- Magnesium levels: Low levels of magnesium can make digoxin toxicity worse.

- Potassium levels: Low levels of potassium can also worsen digoxin toxicity.

- Blood urea nitrogen (BUN): Elevated BUN can indicate decreased renal function and decreased digoxin clearance, increasing the risk of toxicity.
