What is canine rotovirus?

Canine rotavirus is a highly contagious viral infection that affects the gastrointestinal tract of dogs. It is common in puppies under six months of age, but can also occur in adult dogs. The virus is transmitted through contact with infected faeces, and can survive for several days in the environment.

Symptoms of rotavirus in dogs can include:

1. Diarrhoea;

2. Vomiting;

3. Lack of appetite;

4. Lethargy;

5. High fever;

6. Abdominal pain; and

7. Dehydration.

In severe cases, rotavirus can lead to life-threatening electrolyte imbalances and sepsis.
