1. Clean the mess as thoroughly as possible.
This will prevent your dog from being attracted to the area and making another mess.
2. Address the behavior.
If you catch your dog in the act of making a mess, immediately interrupt him or her and firmly say "No". Be sure to take your dog outside to potty after interrupting them.
* If your dog eliminates where they are not supposed to, clean the mess up right away and try to get some of the urine on a paper towel. Let your dog smell it while taking them to the area where they should eliminate. Place the paper towel there with some treats on top.
3. Crate your dog.
When you can’t directly supervise your dog, keep him confined in a crate or small area where he can’t get into trouble and have an accident.
4. Take your dog out for a walk or playtime.
This will help your dog to relax and get some exercise.
5. Reward your dog.
When your dog goes potty in the correct spot, immediately reward them with praise and a treat.
6. Monitor your dog.
If your dog continues to make messes, you may want to consider taking them to the vet to rule out any medical conditions.
