Why is your female dog squatting but not peeing?

There are a few possible reasons why your female dog may be squatting but not peeing.

1. Urinary tract infection (UTI) - A UTI is a common cause of frequent squatting and straining to urinate in dogs. Other signs of a UTI can include blood in the urine, cloudy or foul-smelling urine, and pain or discomfort while urinating.

2. Bladder stones - Bladder stones are another potential cause of squatting and difficulty urinating. Bladder stones can form when minerals in the urine crystallize and stick together. They can cause pain, inflammation, and obstruction of the urethra, making it difficult for your dog to pee.

3. Vaginal discharge - If your dog is unspayed, vaginal discharge can also cause her to squat and strain. Vaginal discharge can be caused by a variety of conditions, including heat cycles, pregnancy, and infections.

4. Constipation - Constipation can also lead to squatting and straining. When a dog is constipated, they may have difficulty passing stool and may squat and strain in an attempt to do so.

5. Other medical conditions - In some cases, squatting and difficulty urinating can be a sign of other medical conditions, such as kidney disease, diabetes, or cancer.

If your dog is squatting but not peeing, it is important to take her to the vet for evaluation to determine the cause of the problem and get appropriate treatment.
