Is dama de noche dangerous if dogs eat it?

Cestrum nocturnum is a species of flowering plant in the family Solanaceae. It is commonly known as night-blooming jessamine, nightblooming jasmine, nightjessamine, night-flowering jessamine, Arabian jasmine, and dame's rocket. It is native to the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central and South America.

All parts of the plant are poisonous, containing tropane alkaloids such as atropine, scopolamine and hyoscyamine. Ingestion of any part of the plant can cause a variety of symptoms, including:

- Nausea

- Vomiting

- Diarrhea

- Abdominal pain

- Drowsiness

- Confusion

- Hallucinations

- Seizures

- Coma

- Death

The severity of symptoms depends on the amount of plant material ingested. There is no antidote for cestrum poisoning, and treatment is supportive.

If you think your dog has eaten any part of a cestrum plant, contact your veterinarian immediately.
