How to Make Your Own Dog Wipes

There isn't a season of the year when muddy or dirty paws aren't part of owning a dog. If your dog delights in rolling, digging or playing outside, cleanup is a regular part of your routine. Making your own dog wipes is easy, cost effective and can be tailored to your dog's needs and your preference for scent and ingredients. Best of all, it's better for your dog than store-bought products.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the type of essential oil you would like to use. Lavender, tea tree and rosemary are nicely scented. A combination of citronella, sage, peppermint and lemon can be used to make wipes that are flea repellent. If your dog has sensitive skin or allergies, use vitamin E oil instead of scented essential oil. Essential oils, aloe vera and vitamin E oil can be purchased in health food stores.

    • 2

Combine 60 drops of essential oil with one bottle of aloe vera. Mix in a well-ventilated area or room using a small hand mixer to be sure the liquid is emulsified and will be evenly distributed into the wipes.

    • 3
Scented wipes make your dog smell fresh.

Place the wipes in the plastic tub. Pour the oil and aloe mixture over the wipes.

    • 4

Cover the tub and place it in the refrigerator for at least two hours. Remove the wipes and turn them over. Allow them to soak for another hour or more. Wipes can be left longer and stored refrigerated in the tub or divided for storage into smaller tubs and refrigerated to retain moisture and freshness.

Remove the wipes and divide them into three or four piles. They may be kept in small, plastic containers or placed in zip-top plastic baggies. Baggies can be stored at room temperature and placed in a purse, car or around the house near the door your dog enters from outside.
