How to Make Dog Bows for Yorkie

Personalize dog bows for your Yorkie by making them yourself at home. Gather ribbon and accessory bow items you enjoy, to create your own design. Faux gemstones, rhinestones, beads and pompoms are easy to attach to the center of a bow to raise the cuteness-factor. Mini rubber bands work best for dog bows or use mini ponytail holders intended for small children. Ponytail holders will avoid pulling or breaking of the dog's hair. Cover a work space with newspaper before beginning, as hot glue often drips. Allow the bow to dry before placing in your Yorkie's hair.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a 7.5-inch long piece of ribbon. Cut the ends at an angle to help avoid fraying.

    • 2

Grab both ends of the ribbon and cross them over each other into an "X" pattern with a loop above it.

    • 3

Push the center of the loop down, pressing it into the center of the "X." Holding the bow in place, wrap a ponytail holder or mini rubber band around the bow to hold it in place in this position. Secure it into place by using a crochet hook to pull the elastic holder around a Popsicle stick. The bow should be wrapped around the stick securely, providing a firm background for the bow, as you complete the additional steps with hot glue.

    • 4

Attach a pompom, a rhinestone or a bead in the center of the bow, using a drop of hot glue from the glue gun. Alternatively, beads can be hand-sewn into the bow using a needle and thread. If using more than one rhinestone or bead, use three or five at a time, as odd numbers are more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Mini flowers, or felt designs can also be hand-sewn or hot glued into the center of the bow, hiding the ponytail holder or rubber band. Use a second Popsicle stick to spread a thin layer of hot glue onto the ribbon and sprinkle a thick layer of glitter over the glue for added sparkle, if you choose.

    • 5

Remove the bow from the Popsicle stick after the bow has dried.
