How to Build a PVC Dog Cot

Dog owners want their beloved canines to have a comfortable place to snooze. A dog bed can help keep your dog off the couch and out of your bed by giving it its own place to rest. Plus, dog beds are much easier on your dog's spine than the floor. But if your dog likes to tear up the traditional fluffy, pillow-style dog bed, a homemade PVC dog bed might be your solution.

Instructions

    • 1

Saw the PVC pipe into two pieces that are 24 inches long, two that are 28 inches long, and four that are 4 inches long.

    • 2

Connect the 24-inch pieces, 28-inch pieces and corner pieces to form a rectangle.

    • 3

Hammer the 4-inch pieces into the open holes of the corner pieces. These serve as the legs of the bed.

    • 4

Spread out the cloth, wrong side facing up if applicable, on an even surface and center the bed frame on top with the legs pointing up.

    • 5

Fold each cloth corner so fabric is still beneath the frame.

    • 6

Fold over one side of the cloth by 1/2 inch twice. The cloth should touch the center of the bottom of the pipe. Affix the cloth with a screw in the middle of the pipe, making sure the screw went through both folds of the fabric. Add five more evenly spaced screws through the fabric on the bottom of the pipe. Repeat these steps on the three remaining sides.

    • 7

Place one screw in each inside corner of the bed frame, and tighten each screw with a channel lock to tighten the fabric.

    • 8

Drill two screws in the underside of each corner piece. One screw should go on each side of each leg but not into the legs. These screws will secure the PVC sides (the 24-inch and 28-inch pieces) to the corner pieces and hold the legs firmly in place.

Flip the bed over so that it is standing up right-side up. At each corner, place five screws over the top of the fabric and through the PVC corners to prevent the dog from chewing any fabric that would normally stick up.
