How Does a One-Piece Dog Harness Go On?

Dog harnesses are preferred by many, keeping strain and pressure off the animal's throat when walking or training. Harnesses place the weight of the animal on the front of the shoulders, making it easier to secure the animal quickly in case of emergency without a collar slipping off or injuring the dog. Putting on a one-piece harness is fast and easy once you get the hang of it.
  1. Orient the Dog

    • Have the animal face you. Open up the harness so the plastic quick-release buckle will be positioned over the dog's back after it goes on.

    Initial Steps

    • Slide the dog's head through the set of straps containing the buckle. Continue pulling the harness over the dog, placing its head through the closed loop that goes around its neck.

    Proper Placement

    • Ensure the center vertical strap is aligned accordingly along the dog's breastbone. Place one foot and leg through the opening just behind the neck loop.

    Almost Ready

    • Slip the loose end of the harness with one half of the buckle under the dog's other leg. At this point, the harness should be correctly in place, hanging loose.

    Securing the Harness

    • Wrap the two sections of the harness strap containing the plastic quick-release hardware around the animal's abdomen, over its back. Snap the two pieces together to finish harnessing your dog.
