Supplies for a Boxer

The boxer is a breed of dog that is believed to have emerged out of Germany in the late 1800s. The roots of the breed come from the mastiff and bulldog. The boxer is easily trained, and once trained, she is loyal and obedient to her master indefinitely. Boxers also make excellent pets due to their low grooming needs, high intelligence and obedience. If you choose to adopt or breed one as your own, essential supplies for her comfort and survival will be needed.

  1. Leashes

    • A nylon leash will be sufficient if you are training a boxer puppy to go on walks with you or to help him learn his environment. As they mature, it is important to remember that these animals are very strong and muscular. An active grown boxer may reach 70 pounds or more. For adult boxers, a leather leash that is thicker and stronger may provide more control.

    Feeding Bowls

    • Boxers have strong teeth and jaw muscles. If given a plastic bowl for food or water, it is likely that the boxer will chew it up as she grows to sharpen or clean her teeth in the absence of a bone. Purchasing a stainless steel bowl will help prevent damage to the bowl, allowing it to last longer. Also, the steel bowl can be sanitized easier.

    Cleaning Supplies

    • Boxers, especially puppies, have an affinity for digging with their front paws. They will paw at their food and dig in the yard and garden, often bringing dirt and messes into your home. Keep plenty of cleaning supplies handy to take care of these messes, such as carpet cleaner, paper towels and even absorbent sheeting for under their food and water bowls.

    Toys

    • It will be necessary to purchase your boxer a collection of toys that will require a lot of physical activity from the dog. Boxers are very active animals, and they need to be played with on a daily basis. If the dog is not receiving enough exercise and activity provided by his owner, the boxer may get restless and damage the inside of your home if not supervised. Excellent choices for boxer toys include tennis balls for playing fetch and rope for a game of tug-of-war.
