Instructions
Measure the dog's neck. Take note of the circumference.
Consult a veterinarian on how large the dog's neck will grow; if the dog is still a puppy.
Purchase a weather-treated leather strap that is 4 inches longer than the maximum circumference of the adult dog's neck. Leather straps can be purchased at clothing supply stores and fabric/material shops.
Purchase a buckle for the collar. The buckle should match the collar in size and design.
Push the end of the strap through the loop of the buckle, and bring it back against the inside of the strap. Now the strap is looped around the buckle.
Use a pin clamp fastener to seal the loop on the collar. A pin clamp fastener will drive a nail through both pieces of leather into a fastener on the other end, thereby clamping it shut. Alternatively, the two pieces of the strap can be sewed together around the buckle.
Use an ice-pick to poke holes in the collar. Poke each hole three-quarters of an inch or 1 inch apart from the next one.
Put a steel ring on the collar. This is what the leash will connect to.
Place the collar on the dog and see how the dog likes it.
