LED Collars for Dogs

LED dog collars are unique compared to simple reflective dog collars because LED collars emit light via a light emitting diaod (LED). Along with night joggers, campers and hikers, the LED collar is used by fishermen, hunters and other outdoor sports enthusiasts where keeping track of companion or sport canines is necessary for the health and safety of the dog. There are many styles and varieties available and all have different purposes as well as different benefits.
  1. Specifications

    • The average visibility range with LED collars for dogs is up to one mile, and some brands offer a blinking light feature as well as various collars of lights (orange, red, green etc.). Also, while some collars will accept a leash attachment, other collars are simply used in addition with a standard leash and collar. As an alternative, some LED collar sellers also sell LED collar and leash combinations in which both the leash and collar are equipped with an LED mechanism.

    Safety Concerns

    • Not only are LED dog collars safe and effective in all weather conditions, but they are also constructed so that the light is behind the dog's ears to prevent impeding the dog's range of vision. Additionally, LED collars can be used on short, medium and long-hair breeds. However, some collars have a thin strip of light that emits from inside the whole collar, where as others have a lighted area on the collar itself.

    Collar Size

    • Some styles of LED collars are fitted based on the size of the dog's neck and do not have extra eyelets to expand or tighten the collar. Therefore, proper measuring of the dog's neck is necessary for the device to stay in place. Sizes can vary by manufacturer, but some also have a two-inch margin (12 to 14 inch, 14 to 16 inch etc.). While any medium-to-large breed can wear most LED collars, some LED collar sellers have a selection of collars made especially for small and toy sized breeds, too.

    Considerations

    • Unlike standard reflector collars, LED collars require batteries, which does create an added step and cost of up-keep to the device. Battery sizes range among manufactures, but most LED collars come with at least one battery already equipped in place. Additionally, many LED collar sellers also sell accessories and extra batteries that fit the brands of collars they carry in stock.
