How to Splice a Pet Wire

Installing a pet fence can be a time consuming and challenging task. You will need to first dig a trench all the way around your property, or around the space that your pet will be allowed to go. Then, you will need to lay the wire into the trench before covering it with the excess dirt. However, one single piece of wire is rarely enough to get all the way around your yard. In this case, you will need to splice the pet wire to join two pieces together.

Instructions

    • 1

Place wire strippers around the end of the pet wire. You will need to strip off about half an inch. Use the notch in the wire cutters made for the gauge of wire you're working with.

    • 2

Repeat step 1 on the other wire. To spice the two wires, you will need to strip half an inch from each.

    • 3

Tie the wires together by making a knot. This will help keep them together after splicing.

    • 4

Put the ends of the two wires together and insert them into a wire nut. Twist to secure them inside the wire nut.

    • 5

Place the wire nut with the two wires into a waterproof wire nut cover. There is gel inside the cover. Insert the wire nut as far as you can into the cover and close the lid. This cover will waterproof the wires you just spliced.
