Instructions
Command the dog to sit and stay, or have an assistant hold the dog still.
Hold the buckle end of the collar in your primary hand, and the free end in your opposite hand.
Place the collar under the dog's neck, and insert the free end through the buckle.
Draw the free end through the buckle and fasten the collar by inserting the locking bar through one of the holes.
Test the tightness of the collar by inserting two fingers between the collar and the dog's neck. If you can't get your fingers in, the collar is too tight. Loosen the collar by moving the bar to the next hole.
Thread the loose end of the collar through the D-ring to keep it from hanging and flopping around.
How to Attach a Nylon Dog Collar
Nylon dog collars offer several advantages over leather collars. Nylon is stronger than leather, and doesn't deform. Other dogs will not chew on nylon collars, as they may with leather, and nylon can be washed when it gets dirty. Nylon collars come in many sizes and colors, and some have decorative accents as well. Nylon collars use a metal buckle, similar to a belt buckle. They also have a D-ring for controlling the loose end and attaching a leash.
