DIY Fleece Jingle Collar

Dog collars protect your pets by broadcasting their names and displaying their rabies shot tags. Through the medium of a collar, you can also express your own identity or even holiday sentiments. Fleece makes a soft and flexible collar for the animal. Attaching jingle bells to the collar supplies a holiday sound as the dog walks around the house. The sound is also a safety feature that alerts you to the presence of the animal when it is out of your sight.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure around the dog's neck with the tape measure.

    • 2

Add 1 inch to the measurement. This is the pattern length for the collar. Cut a piece of elastic to this length.

    • 3

Double the pattern length. Cut a 3-inch wide strip of fleece to this length.

    • 4

Fold the strip of fleece lengthwise and stitch the two long sides together on a sewing machine with a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Turn the tube inside out.

    • 5

Stick a safety pin through one end of the elastic. Push the pin into the fleece tube. Continue to push the pin through the tube until the free end of the elastic is at the end of the tube. Stitch through the fleece and elastic at the end of the tube.

    • 6

Continue to push the safety pin through the tube. The collar will gather around the elastic. When the safety pin pulls the elastic out the other side of the tube, stitch the second end through the elastic and fleece to close the tube.

    • 7

Overlap the two stitched ends to make a circle. Stitch the ends together.

    • 8

Thread the hand-sewing needle. Sew the jingle bells on the collar every 2 inches.

    • 9

Stretch the elastic to slip the jingle collar over the head of the dog.
