How to Make a Puppy Pen From PVC Pipe

Puppies are instinctively playful and can be a handful to control. Building a puppy pen will give the puppies a place to play with out causing havoc all around them. PVC pipes can be used to build a puppy pen that is simple to build and move. The pen can be enlarged later by adding more height, adding connectors to the sides and inserting more pipes for length. This project is 3-foot by 3-foot; however, the dimensions can be changed to create a pen of any size.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a ring of PVC cement around the outside of the ends of each 3-foot pipe and slide a four-way cross to the ends of 20 pipes. Slide T-connectors onto the ends of the last four pipes. The pipes should be inserted into the a horizontal port on the pipes so that the two open ports on the connector are at 180-degree and 90-degree angles from the pipes. Use a rubber mallet to tap the connectors on the pipes. The pipes with the T-connectors will be the top row of pipes.

    • 2

Separate four pipes with cross connectors and place them in the shape of a square on the floor. Apply glue to the outside ends of eight 1 ¼-inch pipes and insert one 1 ¼-inch pipe into the end of each cross connector. The pipes slide into the ports that are horizontal from the 3-foot pipes.

    • 3

Connect the four pipes together with elbow connectors on the 1 ¼-inch pipe.

    • 4

Place PVC cement on the ends of eight more 1 ¼-inch pipes and slide them into the ports on the top of the four-way connectors.

    • 5

Place four 3-foot pipes with four way connectors on the 1 ¼-inch pipes. Cement the ends of eight more 1 ¼-inch pipes and place the pipes in the horizontal ports on the four-way connectors. Connect all the pipes together with elbow connectors.

    • 6

Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for three more layers of pipes.

    • 7

Apply PVC cement to the outside edges of all of the remaining 1 ¼-inch pipes. Place cemented pipes into the open ports on the tops of the four-way connectors. Slide the top row of pipes onto the structure. Insert the remaining 1 ¼-inch pipes into the open ports on the T-connectors and connect the pipes with elbow connectors.

    • 8

Place caps on the bottoms of the four-way connectors on the bottom row.

    • 9

Put the puppy pen in place and cover the bottom in newspaper.
