How to Make a Portable Pet Water Bowl

When away from home, whether traveling or hiking, pets need hydration just as much as their owners do. Carrying around water bowls used at home can be inconvenient and sometimes heavy, and buying portable water bowls can prove to be expensive. A crafty solution to an inconvenient water bowl and a means of saving money is creating your own portable pet water bowl that's also collapsible and reusable. This will allow you to take the bowl with you everywhere and hydrate your pet at any time.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the two pieces of oilcloth on top of one another, with the right sides facing out. Tape the two pieces together at the edges using painter's tape. Sew over the tape using a sewing machine fitted with a heavy-duty sewing needle along all four edges with a 1/8 inch seam allowance. Any stitch can be used.

    • 2

Remove all of the painter's tape.

    • 3

Fold the entire oilcloth into fourths by first folding the oilcloth in half horizontally, then folding it in half again vertically. Crease each fold. You can use your fingernail to crease each fold or the back of a thumbtack.

    • 4

Unfold the last fold so that the oilcloth is only folded in half horizontally. Place the oilcloth --- which should now be in the shape of a rectangle --- so that the folded edge is at the top. Fold the top left corn down to the center crease. Repeat with the upper right corner.

    • 5

Unfold the upper right corner fold while still holding the upper left corner fold down. Turn this right corner fold inside out and flatten it. Repeat with the left corner fold.

    • 6

Fold any one of the unfolded, flattened corners to the center. Repeat with the opposite unfolded, flatted corner as well as the two remaining corners on the other side. Fold the bottom edge in half and secure it with painter's tape. Flip the piece over and repeat Step 6 with other side.

    • 7

Sew 1/8 inch from the folded edge using a heavy-duty needle on a sewing machine. Follow the original seam line and sew along the edge of the flap. If not possible to fit the oilcloth under the sewing machine needle, hand sew the folded edge using small, tight stitches. Remove the painter's tape. Repeat with other side.
