How to Decorate a Leather Dog Leash

Fancy, decorative leather dog leashes can be expensive. An alternative to purchasing a decorative leather leash is decorating your own leash. By purchasing a plain leather leash you can save money as well as create a custom leash for your pet. Leather is a great surface to glue things onto and paint on. Add hearts, stars, gems, sparkles and anything else you want to use to customize the leash. Attach letters to spell out your name or your pet's name to personalize the leash. The possibilities are endless!

Instructions

    • 1

Clear a work area and put down a disposable towel or table cloth to prevent glue from getting on your table surface.

    • 2

Use the craft paint to decorate your leash. Paint the leash before you glue on your beads and gems to create a background color or image for the beads. You do not want to have to paint over or around beads later.

    • 3

Allow your craft paint to dry for two hours. Check to ensure that the paint is dry before proceeding with step 4. Some craft paint will dry quicker than two hours and others may take longer, depending on how thick or thin of a coat you painted.

    • 4

Use your super glue to attach the gems and beads to the leash in your desired pattern.

    • 5

Let the leash dry for one hour, allowing the glue to set.
