Instructions

    • 1

Determine the desired length of your leash, then add another 16 inches. Cut the ends of the rope on an angle.

    • 2

Melt one end of the rope slightly with a lighter. Use an oven mitt or other thick glove to press the melted pieces together after heating the end. (The mitt will keep you from burning your hands.) Repeat on the other end of the rope.

    • 3

Fold the end of the rope back on itself, about 8 inches. This will form the loop. Tie an overhand knot with both parts of the rope. This loop will be the handle for the dog leash. Adjust the size of the loop until it is the desired size. Pull the knot as tight as possible, and double knot it if needed.

    • 4

Fold the other end of rope back over itself about 8 inches, the same as in the previous step. Thread the ring portion of the bull snap onto the end of the rope. Slide the snap down the rope until it is in the center of the fold. Gather the rope and tie an overhand knot above the bull snap. Adjust the knot until there is no gap of rope between the snap and the knot. Pull the knot as tight as possible.

Cut a long strip of heavy-duty tape off of the roll. Wrap the strip of tape tightly around the handle loop. Add more tape as needed to cover the loop. The tape will pad the leash handle to prevent rope burn and make it more comfortable for your hand.

Use the bull snap to secure the leash to your dog's collar when it's time for a walk.
