      Shorten the sock by cutting it a few inches from the cuff.

      Lay the sock on a table so it looks like the letter "J'. Fold the heel in toward the bend part of the "J." Make a 1-inch cut through the folds of fabric. The dog's front legs will go through the holes. Be sure the slits are big enough for your dog's legs to fit through comfortably.

      Cut off the toe of the sock about an inch past the seam to make an opening for the dog's head. Make a hat for your dog with the toe part of the sock.

      Fold the "brim" of the hat over about 1 inch and make a small cut through the fabric layers. The dog's ears will poke through the holes.
