How to Make a Barrel Dog Food Storage Bin

Storage of dog food can be problematic, owing to the potential for unsightly, large containers inside your living space. However, you can create a storage bin that looks like a barrel. This is a large, wooden container with a curved surface. This adds personality to a unusually boring object, plus it is possible to construct your own dog food barrel without spending too much of your hard-earned cash.

Instructions

    • 1

Flatten the cereal boxes and cardboard box in preparation for painting them the color of the barrel.

    • 2

Paint the cereal boxes with a yellow paint, and the thicker cardboard box with brown paint. The cereal boxes are for the main body of the barrel, while the thicker cardboard is for the stripes that run around this.

    • 3

Glue all the cereal boxes into a large square, or rectangular shape. This is to be wrapped around the plastic garbage bin, so make sure you have enough boxes to cover the area around the bin.

    • 4

Leave the glue to dry. Cut the cardboard box into six lengths, each with a two-inch width. These are the rings which circle the body of the barrel, so make sure the length is the same as the circumference of the bin.

    • 5

Wrap the cereal box square around the body of the bin, and put a line of glue where the edges join to fasten them together. Then, stick the top and bottom edges of the boxes to the outer surface of the storage bin.

    • 6

Affix the cardboard box strips. Glue three at the top of the bin, and three at the bottom. Separate them by even amounts, but leave a larger gap between the two sets.

    • 7

Leave the glue to dry, and then write along the edge of barrel with a black marker pen. For example, label the bin with your dog's name.
