Dog Supplies & Harnesses

Pets have a way of becoming a regular part of the family. Just as you would provide shelter, toys and the like for your children, these items are equally important for your pet. Having the right supplies, including harnesses, for that special dog in your family is the first step in keeping your dog happy and healthy.
  1. Shelter

    • Shelter is an important part of owning and caring for your dog regardless of whether your dog is an indoor or outdoor dog. For dogs that will spend a majority of the time outdoors, proper protection from the elements is important. Houses that keep your dog warm and dry in the cold and wet weather, but one that also keeps your pet cool in the summertime, is important. For the indoor dog, many people prefer keeping their pet in a crate for sleeping or when away. It is important for your dog to have enough room to move about comfortably inside the crate. A soft pillow is another option some dogs enjoy.

    Toys

    • Dogs, especially puppies, are like small children in that they love to play. Toys are important for dogs, keeping them active and entertained. Chew toys help to keep your puppy from chewing on items such as shoes, kids' toys and other personal belongings. Playing fetch with a ball or a flying disc is also a good form of exercise for you and your dog. Be sure to choose the right size toy for your dog; you don't want your dog to be able to swallow the toy.

    Grooming

    • Proper grooming is important for your dog. Regular bathing with shampoos specifically made for your dog will help your dog stay clean and healthy. Keeping your dog brushed between groomings will help keep the coat shiny and healthy by removing dead and unwanted hair. Check your pet regularly for ticks and fleas. Flea treatments are readily available for your pet and can be done at home. Whether you choose to trim your dog's nails at home with nail clippers or take him to the groomer, nail care is an important part of caring for your pet.

    Harnesses

    • Harnesses are an important part of safe walking for your dog. There are several types of harnesses available. The standard harness will hook on your dog's back, the front legs slide through shoulder holes or you can slide it over the dog's head. This is a good choice if you don't use a collar. The sporn harness is a back-hook harness that will reduce the pulling from your dog. However, they are more difficult to hook up. The front-hook harness places the hook on your dog's chest where you can attach the leash. This type of harness slides over the dog's head and hooks under the front legs. This type will help reduce pulling from your dog, but can break if not worn correctly.
