Grave Markers for Dogs

The passing of a beloved pet can be challenging. When coming to terms with the decision that you are going to bury your dog in your yard, setting up a memorial garden gives you a place to relax and reflect later. If you've decided that a pet cemetery will be your dog's final resting place, several properties are available nationwide. A nameplate or grave marker ensures that you'll be able to return to visit your pet often.
  1. Headstone

    • Be traditional and hire someone to craft a headstone out of granite or stone. Specialty stores also carry these items and will engrave your pet's name, life dates and even a paw print on the headstone. If you buy this item from a retailer, be aware that this option is one of the pricier ways to honor your pet.

    Bench

    • Craft a small wooden bench to be placed at the head of your pet's grave site. Build it tall enough for you to be comfortably seated when you want to return to the dog's side and reflect on the life the two of you shared. Benches can be made out of pine, maple or even plywood. Hire a local carpenter to craft one if you don't feel handy. Add a name plate with your pet's name and dates, and affix it to the front.

    Engraved Stones

    • Dogs that once loved adding a decorative flair to your garden by running through it, deserve being memorialized with engraved specialty stones. Various materials are available when you choose to move in this direction. Stones can be small enough to fit in the palm of your hand or large enough to stand erect above the grave site. Engraving on all materials is available, and a name plate with life years is also applicable.

    Photo Reminder

    • When you'd like to be able to remember exactly what your best friend looked like, a quartz block, complete with a black-plated top, suits your needs. Skilled craftsmen are knowledgeable about how to create a picture of your pet on the plate. Adding the name and life dates is also available. A special phrase or quote can also be applied.
