Dog Training Pads
-
If your dog is incontinent but still has some control over its bladder, you can use dog training pads. These pads have been treated with a scent that dogs find an attractive place for peeing. Place the pads near the dog's bed or near the door where it waits to go outside. If the dog has to go and no one is there to let them out, the dog will use the pad.
Urine-Proof Pet Beds
-
Urine-proof beds are useful for dogs that have bladder control issues when they sleep. They consist of an elevated frame with a mesh and a tray underneath. The urine drains through the bed, and drips into the tray.
Human Diapers
-
Pull-up style swimming diapers intended for kids also work well for dogs. Just cut a hole in the diaper for the dog's tail. Cut the hole in the side of the diaper that has less padding. Make sure to change the diaper when it gets soiled. Leaving a dirty diaper on a dog may cause health problems.
Hormonal Treatments
-
Some incontinence issues in dogs are caused by hormone imbalances. This is a problem in older female dogs, but can also be problematic in male dogs with enlarged prostate glands. Talk to your veterinarian about possible hormone treatments.

Alternatives to Diapers for Dogs
Dog owners use diapers for incontinent dogs, and for female dogs in heat. No one likes getting up in the morning and stepping in a puddle of urine, or finding blood spots on the carpet or furniture. Dog diapers are expensive, much more expensive than human diapers. There are a few alternatives that you can use to make your dog and your wallet more comfortable.
