Dog Collars That Have Flashing Lights

When you walk your dog at night, placing a lighted collar on it can help increase its visibility to drivers and keep you both safe in poor lighting conditions. Drivers who cannot see either you or your dog could accidentally hit you. If your dog manages to break away from you or its leash and dash into the street, a lighted collar will allow on-coming traffic to see it and stop in time to prevent injury. Purchase a pet collar with flashing lights to keep both you and your dog safe.
  1. PolyBrite Lighted Dog Collar

    • PolyBrite lighted dog collars combine a patented polymer and LED light technology with special reflective stitching for nighttime visibility. The collars have a three-function switch that lets you choose either off, flashing lights or a constant light. They are available in red with white stitching and provide visibility from as far as one mile away. The light function requires a lithium watch battery, (CR2032), which lasts up to 200 hours. The lighted collar comes in small, medium and large, ranging in size from 12 to 26 inches in length and weighs 1.4 to 2.9 oz., depending on the size. Depending on the size and pattern, the collars retail for about $15 to $20 dollars, as of January 2011.

    Dog-e-Lites Lighted Dog Collar

They flash in a sequence along the length of the collar. You can see the lights from as far a way as 300 meters. The collar is available in three adjustable sizes, ranging in length from 7 inches up to 26 inches. You can purchase the water-resistant collar in five different colors or two decorative prints. The collar uses 2 watch batteries that vary by size and is packaged with four of them. You can also purchase a matching lighted 6-foot leash. Depending on size and pattern, the collars retail for between $20 and $28.

    Visiglo Lighted Dog Collar

    • The Visiglo Lighted Dog Collar from Atomic Products comes in three adjustable sizes ranging in length from 10 to 26 inches. The collar comes in six solid colors and four prints with flashing LED lights along the middle of the collar. Made of nylon, the collars come in a standard width of 1 inch and run on CR22025 batteries. The collar has a simple on/off switch in the center of the collar that you press to turn on. The lights flash in sequence around the collar. It retails for about $23 to $25.

Considerations when choosing a lighted collar

    • When purchasing a dog collar with flashing lights, always measure the diameter of your dog's neck to assure you select a properly sized collar. The collar should allow for two fingers to fit comfortably between the collar and your dog's neck. Collar sizes listed by the manufacturers typically account for about 2 inches of adjustment for your dog's neck. While you should not purchase a collar that constricts your dog's neck, you also don't want one that could slip over its neck, allowing it to escape while walking. In addition to collars with flashing lights, you can purchase flashing light clips that attach to your dog's existing collar to illuminate it. These usually cost less than lighted collars and may save you money.
