How to Mount a Dog Crate on a Motorcycle

Motorcycle-mounted dog crates are a good way to transport your dog if you don't own a car or prefer to ride a motorcycle. The key to mounting the pet crate is finding one that fits with your motorcycle and ensuring that both you and the dog are safe and comfortable. Several manufacturers design dog crates specifically to be mounted on motorcycles.

Instructions

    • 1

Get a pet crate or carrier that is specifically designed to be mounted on a motorcycle, such as those made by T-Bags. This is the best way to ensure that your pet is safe and comfortable when you are transporting him. Building a makeshift pet crate for your motorcycle could result in a faulty design that may harm you or your dog.

    • 2

Insert the pet crate slot over the top of the driver's seat rest. The seat rest must have a mounting loop where the bag can sit on top of a luggage rack or passenger seat. Pull the pet crate all the way down until it is firmly locked in place.

    • 3

Fit the mounting loop over the seat rest, tuck in the doggy and make sure that the device is zipped up completely and the extended part of the fabric door is tucked in. The mounting loop must be a snug enough fit that it requires your effort to push it over the seat rest. If it is loose, it may release from the seat rest and cause injury to the pet.

Lace the tie-down straps around the backrest support. Reattach the straps and pull them tightly. Hook the right strap to the right side hook and the left one to the left side hook on the side of the metal backrest.

    • 5

Tie off or cut loose straps to prevent them from tangling with the motorcycle while riding.
