Instructions
Look at the harness. There should be two small metal plates located near each other on a double strap portion of the harness. This is the middle strap of the harness. There will also be one larger metal plate and a plastic squeeze cinch located on a longer strap with a loop at the end. This is the strap that should run along the dog's back; the leash connects at the end of the loop.
Hold the harness up so that the long leash strap is pointed toward the back of the dog and the center strap is pointed downward. Slip the front of the harness over the head of the dog and place one leg on each side of the center strap.
Push the metal plates on the center strap together to loosen the center strap. Pull the metal plates away from each other to tighten the center strap. The center strap should fit snugly around the chest of the dog.
Push the back plate down until it rests on the back of the dog. Adjust the back strap by moving the plastic cinch. Squeeze the cinch and move it down the strap toward the dog to tighten the strap. Loosen the strap by pulling the cinch away from the dog. The cinch can rest up to two finger widths away from the metal plate and still form a secure fit.
Check the fit of the harness by allowing the dog to walk around. A dog that seems to be moving stiffly may indicate the harness is too tight. If the harness freely slips up near the dog's head and neck, it is too loose.
How to Adjust a Top Paw Dog Harness
A dog harness is an alternative to a collar or a choke chain, which can place an excessive amount of pressure on the neck if your dog. When used properly, a harness can also provide more control while walking. The Top Paw harness is a step-in style harness. This makes the harness very easy to put on. The harnesses come in general sizes from extra small to large. The extra small is recommended for toy breeds like a Pomeranian. The extra large is recommended for giant breeds such as a Great Dane. The straps are easily adjusted to fit individual dog's needs.
