How to Build a Dog Ramp for a Car

As dogs age, they might need a little help reaching high places, such as a bed, chair or car. A dog ramp is a moderately difficult task that takes preparation and the right supplies, but it can be done as a do-it-yourself project to save you money.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the distance from the car to the ground, then add 4 inches to the length. Cut the plywood to this length.

    • 2

Lay another piece of plywood on the ground, place the screws into the wood and screw them in.

    • 3

Attach indoor/outdoor carpeting to the plywood and cut to the length of the ramp. Attach the carpeting to the ramp using a heavy-duty stapler.

    • 4

Place the ramp onto the car and have your pet try to climb it. If your dog needs additional help, wood lath strips can be added at 11-inch intervals for your dog to use as grips.
