Gather bottles or cans of tomato juice, and place them in the area where you will bathe the dog. Change into old clothes and gather old towels to dry the dog with. Place the dog shampoo within easy reach. Open the cans or bottles of tomato juice, and set them aside.
Wet down the dog fully, keeping the water out of the dog's ears. Apply shampoo liberally, and scrub thoroughly. Rinse the dog completely.
Pour the tomato juice over the entirety of the dog, keeping it out of the dog's eyes and ears. Rub it well into the fur, especially if you have a dog with a thick undercoat. Leave the tomato juice on for approximately 15 minutes.
Rinse the dog thoroughly, and repeat the tomato juice procedure two to three more times to fully remove the skunk smell. Remove your old clothes and towels. Wash them separately from other items in your washing machine, or throw them away.
How to Wash a Dog in Tomato Juice
Washing a dog in tomato juice may be necessary if you find your dog has come into contact with a skunk. Skunk spray is actually an oil secreted by the skunk in self-defense, so it's necessary for you take some precautions prior to attempting to bathe your dog with tomato juice. Keep the dog outside or at least away from all furniture to prevent the oil and smell from spreading.
