How to Build a Dog Pen Out of PVC

A dog pen is a great investment if you want to be able to let your dog have its own space to run around and play. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to let your dogs run free. Most people who invest in one of these either do not have a large yard or do not have a fence. Dogs are naturally friendly and curious, but that nature can also cause them to get lost or get hurt. You can build a playpen for your dog, so it has the room it needs to exercise and the peace of mind knowing that your dog will not get in trouble or hurt.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the PVC pipe into 12 segments, each 6 feet in length.

    • 2

Assemble four pieces of PVC pipe together with corner joints that have three sockets. This will form a square that is the bottom layer of the pen. Assemble the top of the pen in the same manner.

    • 3

Attach four vertical pieces into the corner joints of the bottom layer of the pen. Place the top layer over the 4 vertical pieces and attach at the corner joints.

    • 4

Prepare PVC for gluing. Use PVC cleaner to prepare the PVC for assembly. Clean about 1 inch of each end of each piece of PVC as well as the inside of each elbow.

    • 5

Apply PVC glue to the ends of each pipe and inside of corners. PVC glue dries quickly. Verify your fittings are in proper alignment as you will not be able to adjust them after the glue has dried.

Attach the netting around the sides of the pen with a thin rope. Tie the rope to the frame and weave through the edges of the netting.
