How Can I Make a Dog Crate Smaller?

If you are in the process of house-training your dog or puppy, the size of the crate will really matter. If the crate is too big, the extra space may cause the dog to soil in it without any problems, and if the crate is too small, the dog will not have sufficient space to stand up and turn around comfortably. Finding the right size crate for your dog may be challenging at times. If you bought a crate that is too large for your puppy or dog, you can make it smaller by using the right tools and materials.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your puppy or dog in the crate and determine how small you want to make the crate. Make sure your canine companion will still be able to stand up, turn around and lay down comfortably.

    • 2

Measure the height of the crate from the floor to the top and the width of the crate from side to side across using the measuring tape. Write the measurements down.

    • 3

Trace on the cardboard the measurements so you can make a divider for your crate. You can use the measuring tape to draw straight lines of the right measures.

    • 4

Cut out the cardboard accordingly using a strong pair of scissors or a box cutter. Try to fit the cardboard inside the crate. You may need to cut a little extra to ensure it fits well.

    • 5

Punch some holes on the sides of the cardboard so you can insert strings and tie the cardboard securely to the cage.
