Things You'll Need
- Heated electrical throw for pets
- Power outlet
- Toys or bones
Instructions
Designate a place in the house for the heated electric throw for your pet. The throw should be used inside only. This place should be near a power outlet, away from a radiator or stove and within your eyesight. It is important to keep a close watch on your pet while using this heated throw to make sure your pet does not chew it or that it doesn't accidentally catch fire.
Remove any flammable objects from around the heated electric throw such as newspapers.
Place your pet's toys or bones around the throw especially if the area designated for it is different than the area where your pet used to sleep. If possible, use the same area, as long as it meets the above requirements. That way, your pet will be comfortable and not confused as to where the sleeping area is.
Plug the throw into a power outlet and let it heat. Pet electric heated throws have chew-resistant cords and low-voltage power adapters. The heat it emits is about 12 degrees above room temperature.
Test out the throw during the day by encouraging your pet to sleep there by giving snacks or pointing out toys. If your pet sleeps there comfortably, you're set. If not, it will take some more encouraging and practice for the pet to realize this is his or her new sleeping area.
Adjust the temperature using the throw's thermostat control. Make sure it isn't too hot for your pet but also that it isn't too cold.
Take the cover off the throw and wash it in the machine after some time to refresh it and clean it.
