Things You'll Need
- Tape measure
- Pencil
- Paper
Instructions
Sit down at the side of your dog. Have the dog stand up on all four legs.
Measure the distance from the dog's shoulders down to the floor. Any kind of tape measure will work for this, but make sure you hold it as straight as possible when taking the measurement. Write the measurement down on a sheet of paper.
Measure the distance from the dog's nose to the base of his tail. Write this measurement down on a sheet of paper.
Add 6 inches to the measurements to determine the proper crate size. For example, if the dog is 24 inches tall and 36 inches long, you need a crate that's 30 inches tall and 42 inches long. Get a crate with measurements as close as possible to the appropriate size for your dog. Do not get one that's too small.
