How to Mount a Pet Carrier on a Motorcycle

Pet carriers allow you to take your small pet with you while traveling. This is common during flights or long drives, but now custom pet carrier companies have also made it possible to take your pet on motorcycle rides. You can mount a pet carrier to almost any motorcycle as long as it has a luggage rack. With safety being the number one priority, there are a few things you need to know before mounting your pet carrier.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a pet carrier that is made specifically for motorcycles. Do not attempt to connect a regular pet carrier to a motorcycle. These carriers are not designed for this purpose and may be unsafe for your pet. Brands such as PetEgo and T-bags make motorcycle pet carriers. They can be purchased at your local pet super center or online.

Align the back of the pet carrier over the top of the driver's seat rest and firmly pull down. The pocket on the back of the pet carrier, or "mounting loop," should fit securely once over the seat rest. Ensure all zippers are zipped properly by giving them a tug to make sure they stay in place. If the pet carrier seems loose or damaged in any way, remove and discontinue using it. The bottom of the pet carrier should be sitting on top of the motorcycle luggage rack.

Lace the tie-down straps on the back of the seat rest for added security. Once the straps are attached, pull until they are tight. Do not tie both straps to the same post; they must be secured on the left and right post independently.

Tuck under or cut any loose straps to avoid any damage while riding. You want to avoid the possibilities of tangling or flapping.
