How to Make a Dog Bed with a PVC Pipe Frame

A PVC pipe-frame dog bed is a basic frame with legs to elevate it off the ground slightly. This allows air to flow underneath your dog, making it more comfortable to lie in bed. You can build a bed just like this for your dog and place it wherever it likes to sleep. These instructions are for a 4-foot-by-2-½-foot bed that accommodates most dogs, but you can just adjust the lengt, width or both to make a bed that fits your dog better.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 ½-inch-wide PVC pipe
  • Saw
  • PVC elbow T-fittings
  • End caps
  • Heavy fabric
  • Plastic curved washers
  • Power drill screws

Instructions

    • 1

Cut two lengths of PVC pipe to 4 feet long and two more to 2½ feet long, using a saw. These are for the frame of the bed.

    • 2

Cut four more pieces of PVC to 6 inches long. These are the legs of the bed.

    • 3

Lay the frame pieces of pipe on the floor so they form a rectangle and connect each corner with an elbow T-fitting. The single, vertical opening in the fittings should be facing upward.

    • 4

Insert each of the pipes for the legs into each of the opening in the fittings. Slip an end cap over the bottom of leg.

    • 5

Turn the bed over so it is resting on the legs and drape the fabric over it. The edges of the fabric should hang over the sides of the frame by 2 inches.

    • 6

Place a plastic washer over the fabric and press it against the underside of any of the frame pipes so the curve of the washer fits against the pipe. The washer should be holding the fabric in place but not visible from the side of the bed.

    • 7

Insert a screw through the washer and fabric and into the pipe using a power drill. Attach four washers along each side of the frame to hold the fabric in place.

    • 8

Trim the excess fabric with scissors.
