How to Reassemble a Retractable Dog Leash

If you've taken apart your retractable dog leash because it wasn't working properly and you wanted to fix it, or if you were just curious about the inner workings of the contraption, putting it back together is as easy as it was to take apart. Most retractable dog leash models have only two screws holding the housing unit together.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the leash around the wheel inside your dismantled retractable dog leash and leave only the end of the dog leash sticking out of the front of the housing compartment.

    • 2

Place the lid back over the housing with the screw holes matching up.

    • 3

Insert the screws into the screw holes and tighten them with a Philip's head screwdriver. Alternatively, use a standard screwdriver if you have standard screws.

    • 4

Pull the leash out and release it to see if it retracts correctly. If not, then take apart the retractable dog leash and wrap the leash tighter around the wheel. Reassemble the leash as in the above steps.
