Standard Mesh Fence
-
Mesh fencing is a simple fence that will work for many types of pets. Mesh fencing needs to be properly installed in order to keep animals contained. If the fence is not properly installed, it may leave gaps under the fence or at the sides, giving the pet the opportunity to escape. Mesh fencing is stretched tightly between fence posts and attached to the post with staples.
Invisible Electric Fence
-
Invisible electric fences are relatively new products and if the instructions are followed closely, they work great for keeping a dog in a certain area. The beauty of the invisible fence is that there is no need to have a physical fence around your home and it gives the dog greater freedom. The invisible fence is buried in the ground around the yard and can be installed in a day or less for the average size yard. The layout of the fence needs to be planned before the installation actually begins.
The one drawback of the invisible fence is the training of the dog. It can take one to four weeks to train the dog properly depending on the dog and your level of training experience. Invisible fences can be found in sizes that will cover from half an acre all the way up to twenty-five acres. An invisible fence will come with a special collar that the dog will have to wear at all times. The collar and fence work in conjunction to make the system work properly. The collar will be battery-operated and the batteries will need to be changed every three to six months, depending on how often the dog tests the boundaries of the fence.
